A. We are born happy!

How can we be happy in a world filled with pain, conflicts and disappointments?

Allow me to share with you one of The Paradoxical Commandments for happiness offered by Kent Keith, "Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.” Mother Teresa of Calcutta [1910-97], who endorsed this principle, added "You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway."

B. We are the power to be happy!

How can we harness this power in a helpless, hopeless or godless world?

What Mother Teresa calls God, other women and men call by different names - Power, Peace, Calm, Silence, Energy, Faith, Hope, Love, Universe, Nature, Life Force, Soul, Spirit, Supreme Intelligence, Integral Being, Fullness, Emptiness, Connectedness, Allah, Brahma, Jesus, Mazda, Serenity, Beauty, Joy, Happiness or Source. The Source creates us as we are, accepts and appreciates us for who we are, and wants to direct us to our highest good and, thus, create a magnificent life.

Many world cultures and traditions suggest the following steps to access the Source of Power.

Step A. Making up one's mind to be happy [Awakening];

Step B. Accepting the polarities along one's path [Balancing];

Step C. Choosing the better option or the higher frequencies [Centering]; and

Step D. Harmony with what one thinks, says and does [Delight].

C. We are the change and choose to be happy!

How are these ABCD steps historical, psychological and spiritual?

Over the centuries these four steps [Awakening, Balancing and Centering Delight] have empowered many to navigate the realms of personal, collective and transpersonal energies to lead healthier and happier lives. These steps are put forward in many Holy Books, including the Scriptures, with stories of individuals and communities whose lives changed for the better.  In contemporary psychology these evidence-based steps parallel the stages of clinical change: pre-contemplation, contemplation, action and celebration. From a neuro-linguistic perspective these steps may be compared to the processes of learning: unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence and unconscious competence.

From a mystical perspective these steps can be articulated as

Awakening the Path of Fullness or Affirmation [Via Affirmativa],

Balancing with the Path of Emptiness or Negation [Via Negativa],

Centering the Path of Compassion with Experiences and Expressions [Via Creativa],

   and moving along the Path of Enlightenment from Purification and Illumination to

Delight in Mystical Union [Via Transformativa].

    Catherine of Sienna [1347-80] has described these mystical paths as "all the way to heaven is heaven."

D. We are the delight along the path to happiness!

How can we embark on this Journey of Delight?

The good news is,

- by integrating one's body, mind and heart with The Rhythms of the Breath and of the Universe, and

- by learning to Awaken, Balance and Center the Power within, one can be eternally happy;

- by taking delight in one life, one couple, one family, one group at a time, we can change the world.
